Dystopian Wars - First Game

Tonight my mate Shane and I brought out our starter fleets for our first game of Dystopian Wars.  Shane, like me, only just recently painted his first models for the game and he'd done a great job on his Empire of the Burning Sun naval battle group.  We didn't manage to get a full game in but we played enough to realise that a) the game is awesome and b) we're going to have to play this game a lot more... which is handy as I've done some toy trading with the other guys at the Bunker and managed to become the proud owner of another Prussian naval battle group, a dreadnought, more cruisers and some destroyers.  I've also ordered an armoured battle group and both the waterlined and normal versions of the Mertzger robot.  2013 is going to have a very Spartan feel to it, I'm sure...

Anyway - here's some pics from the game...

Blood and Iron

Here's a sneak preview of a WIP - my battleship for my Prussian Empire force for Dystopian Wars.  I have an intro game scheduled for the 19th December so I need to get the rest of the naval battle group painted for then.  Full steam ahead!

* edit *

I had time tonight to get the Cruisers ready for duty so here they are...

The reason these are works in process is because I have some very, very small decals that I want to apply to these models and I want to paint the windows too.  I have just over a week to get these models ready for use though so I will get the basic paintjobs done and will return to them to get the extras done.

* edit II *

The Frigates are done - might as well post them up here too now...

* edit III *

The Geier class bombers are painted - I just need to get decals on them to finish them off.  I magnetised them to make them easier to store.  If you want to try it for yourself, the socket in the aircraft is deep enough to take three 3mm x 1mm magnets - put on one top of the stand and there's a strong enough bond to hold the aircraft on the stand fairly securely.

*edit IV *

The last thing in the naval battle group that needed painting was the tiny flyers.  These are now done!

These are now ready to game with although I am going to finish them off with decals once I get a chance.  I've also bought a couple of extra blisters to add to it - a Rhine class fleet carrier and some Jager class small airships.  So - more painting to do.  I must say, I'm looking forward to playing this game now so I'll try to take some pictures on Wednesday.

Firestorm Armada - Aquans vs Dindrenzi

I had a game of Firestorm Armada tonight with my Aquans taking on my friend Alister's Dindrenzi.  We were playing a 700 point game so I thought I'd try out my Carrier as I've not played a game with wings before.  I've not played Firestorm for months and it was my first game using the latest Master rulebook so it took a while getting on with the little changes from the old version.  So - what with all the new rules and using stuff I've not before meant we took things slowly and just aimed to have fun and throw some dice while we were learning how to play again.

I'd like to say that it was a close battle, filled with tactical advances, clever ploys and gambits and with the game result resting on a knife-edge until the final turn.  It would be a complete lie though!  I got totally thrashed.  My Aquans suffered damage from the long range guns of the Dindrenzi and by the time they got close enough to start shooting themselves, they had suffered too much to do anything other than scratch the paint of their enemies.  Oh well.  It was good fun and I'm keen to try playing again soon so I can get a better understanding of the rules.

Here's some pics of the game to finish off!
